34th Seaton Classic 2016

Another year of success at the 34th Seaton Classic held at JB Ski. . .

34th Seaton Classic

The Classic started way back as a handicap jump and slalom competition. In later years the trick was added to make it a full 3 event and often a last chance to get a UK score.

As an event organiser it is always fun - trying to keep the skier list topped up in the weeks before. Many skiers get to the last couple of competitions and see if they have done enough or maybe go and chase that missing score in some warm water! So there are always last minute drop outs, luckily there are always more skiers to fill the places. We had a good turnout and possibly the best weather for many years.

Friday set up was very social and we had a lot of skiers new to Thorpe going out for a practice. Saturday started at 8.30 with trick. Young Stella Gamski was tricking for the first time and scored a few points But Harrison Crossland took the cup.

Slalom started mid-morning and conditions were great. The personal best scores kept coming and after two rounds it was too close to see who might win.  The daylight caught out the final few skiers but Rob Poland managed to get a good score as last skier of the day.

Sunday was another 8.30 start with jump. The jumpers might have wanted a bit more wind but I had booked slalom weather. Arron Davies was the longest jumper but Peter Bowden took the cup jumping close to his PB each round. Slalom followed with the last few skiers of round 2 then straight into Round 3. Again more PB’s and the lead kept changing. Catherine Wharton was having fun getting the scores out live and in handicap order. Quick shout out for more calculators to help for 2017.  Final scores went in and a good spread of all skiers were in the top ten. Showing that Paul Seaton had started something special all those years ago.

Well done to all the skiers and in the top 10 the age range was from 55+ to U 10’s so anybody can win.

There are too many judges, officials and helpers to name so thank you all for being part of The Arena team. Nobody thanks the boat so I will. The Nautique 200 at JB works hard all year and yet again pulled a great competition.

Remember next year is the 35th Seaton Classic so come and make it another special event

Thanks for the help and support
