Top Class Skiing at British Junior & Open Nationals

4 August 2016

British Junior and Open Nationals are the biggest event in your calendar if you are a tournament water skier in the UK. Gosfield Lake was proud to host it for a second year running and once again with the help of top-class officials ran a super sleek event over the last weekend in July.

YOuth & Open Nationals

There was some fantastic skiing in all age categories topped off by a three-way run off between Luke Outram, Callum Heath and Rob Hazelwood for the top slot in the Open slalom following Freddie Winter breaking his ankle in the preliminary round buoy three on the 10.25 m Rope.  The three remaining skiers scored three and a half buoys on the 11 m line, then on the last completed pass of 12 m, Luke going first scored three on the 11 25 meter line followed by Rob who also scored three on the 11.25m line.  Callum was last out but only managed half on that line. So first and second place was then determined by another run off with Luke going first again achieving 1 .25 @11.25m line which left the door open for Rob who got 2.5 buoys to take the Open title.

Jump was just as exciting with Andrew Critchley taking top honours with a 55.2m jump closely followed by young Joel Poland who went 52.8m but with the boat speed of only 51KPH (Open men normally jump at 57kph.) Third place was William Oliver with 50.9m.  The Open overall champion was Joe Poland who scored a massive 9130 points in the trick finals to secure his place as overall champion and one of the youngest in recent history.
