There are a number of grassroots and IWWF ranked competitions available for riders to enter across the UK. At major International competitions, ranking points are now required to attend.

Guide to the new ranking points criteria for European and World Championships

What are the rules?
In 2014, the IWWF set a minimum points requirement for riders to attend European and World Championships.  The GB selection committee can only select riders with the required number of points to attend major competitions. An additional two riders per category, without the required number of points, can be selected as wildcards.

The points required are shown below:

  • Boys, Girls, Veterans400
  • Juniors, Open, Masters800

It is possible to carry points from a more difficult category. For example if you ride in Junior Men, you can combine points from Junior Men and Open Men. However, if you wish to ride in Open Men at a European or World Championship only your Open Men points will be counted.

How do I know how many points I have?
Your current points can be found on the CWWC ranking list on cablewakeboard.net.

How do I obtain points?
Ranking points are obtained from any International ranking point competition that you compete in.

In the UK there are an increasing number of ranked competitions available to enter with the most notable being the British National Championships (400 available ranking points).  Ranking points remain on your record for 12 months after the event, or until the same event is held again.

Ranking points are also available from other IWWF sanctioned competitions in the World. More information on these competitions can be found on cablewakeboard.net. The points obtained at World Championships will last for two years, until the next World Championships are held.

The Cable Wakeboard Committee is happy to speak to and assist any affiliated/accredited cable about running a ranked event.

How does this affect selection for the team?
Selection for Worlds and Europeans will continue to be made on the same basis as previous years. Riders must be selected by the Cable Wakeboard selection committee in order to attend a European or World Championship; having the required number of points will not automatically mean you are selected but it is advantageous.

Those riders in the GB Squad who do not have the required points to be automatically considered for selection to attend a major championship may still be selected as a wildcard; however, their commitment to attending UK ranking events will be taken into consideration if there are a number of riders in a similar situation. It is a rider’s responsibility to attend all UK based ranking points events to ensure they gain as many points as possible

Please make contact with the Cable Committee if you are unsure about how the points system works.
