European Medals for Cable Wakeboarders

29 August 2022

Team GB has returned from the 2022 IWWF European & African Cable Wakeboard & Wakeskate Championships in Denmark with the Overall Team Silver and two individual medals.

A squad of 23 travelled to the Thy Cablepark in Thisted with the team finishing in an impressive second place out of 16 countries competing. Seven of the riders made it to their respective finals.

Ade Clayton won silver in the Veteran Men (Over 40s) Wakeboard and David Broadway finished just behind him to take the bronze. The gold went to Marcin Mackowski of Poland.

“It was a great competition. I was really pleased to put down my best run when it mattered most,” Ade said.

“There’s something special about being away with the GB Team,” David said. “The sense of camaraderie between us all when competing has a different feel to other competitions. And there’s an even better feeling when you share a podium with a teammate.”

Team Captain, Dale Crossley, said: “With a new squad this year, many of whom had not competed internationally, the European Championships provided a real challenge for some of our best riders.

“I’m absolutely delighted that Team GB secured a silver medal this year and extremely proud of both Ade Clayton and David Broadway for taking silver and bronze in the Veterans category.

“We’re already working on our training plan for the World Championships in Thailand (at the end of October) and I’m looking forward to seeing what our riders have to deliver not just against Europeans but worldwide athletes.”

The rest of the team who made it to all the way to their finals were: Dale Crossley, Samuel Bradbury, Lotte Docherty, India Laverack and Leah Morgan.

Congratulations to them and to all in the team who contributed to a fantastic Championships for GB!
