GB Barefoot Team Head to France for European Championships

A team of 10 athletes will represent Great Britain at the European Barefoot Waterski Championships this week.

 

The competition takes in Chartres, France, from 13 to 16 August.

Britain has a strong pedigree in barefoot waterskiing and the 2025 team includes several members who won medals at both the European and World Championships in 2024.

Among the squad members off to France are:

  • 14-year-old Lewis Townsley, who has been selected for the GB squad for the first time this year and for whom this will be his international debut
  • Brothers Ben and Henry Sullivan
  • Paul Turner and his step-daughter Matilda Mulcahy

The full GB Squad attending the 2025 European Championships is:

JUNIORS

Olly Moore (16) who won a bronze medal at the 2024 European Championships and is the 2025 Junior Boys’ British Champion in trick, slalom, jump and overall.

Jasper Poulton-Stowe (16) who trains at Cotswold Waterski Club in South Cerney, Gloucestershire.

Lewis Townsley (14) who trains at White Cross Ski Club in Cawood, North Yorkshire.

Matilda Mulcahy (16) who trains at Lydd Water Ski Club in Kent. She won a bronze medal at the European Championships in both 2023 and 2024 and has several British National titles in the Junior Girls and Open Women categories. Matilda will also compete in Open Women at the 2025 Europeans.

Tom Heaps (26) who trains at Weaver Sailing & Ski Club, Frodsham in Cheshire. He has won multiple medals and titles at World and European Championships, including silver in the jump event at the 2024 Worlds. At the 2024 Europeans, he won four medals including a gold. He is the 2025 Open Men’s British Champion in slalom, jump and overall and silver medallist in tricks.

Rick Moyes who also trains at Weaver Sailing & Ski Club. He has four medals from previous European Championships including a gold in the tricks event at the 2024 Euros. He is the 2025 Open Men’s British Champion in tricks and silver medallist in both slalom and overall.

Ben Sullivan (22) who trains at Cotswold Water Ski Club, South Cerney, Gloucestershire. He won bronze in the Under-23 Men’s jump event at the 2024 World Championships.

Henry Sullivan (18) who, as a junior in 2023, had a clean sweep of gold medals in slalom, tricks, jump and overall at the European Championships. He was the 2025 silver medallist in the Open Men’s jump event at the 2025 British Nationals.

Hayden Knaggs (35) who trains at Action Watersports at Lydd in Kent.

SENIORS

Paul Turner (60) who trains at Lydd Waterski Club in Kent and has competed at many European and World Championships dating back to 2006.
