Issy Cosgrove Reigns in Spain

21 July 2025

13-year-old Issy Cosgrove is coming home from the Europe & Africa Youth Waterski Championships in Spain with three gold medals and a silver. There was also a bronze for Buddy Carrington and a Team bronze.

Issy was the star performer among seven talented British skiers who put in a great team effort in both the Under-14 and Under-17 categories at the Championships, held at Botaski in Seseña, Spain. The results were enough to earn the Overall U14 and U17 Team bronze.

In the preliminary round, Issy was the top scorer in Under-14 Girls in all three events of slalom, tricks and jump, equalling her jump PB of 31.7 metres. In the finals, it was only in jump that she couldn’t hold on to the top spot.

Issy won gold in tricks (4,780 points), slalom (1 at 11.25m/52kph) and overall.  Her silver in jump was secured with a longest distance of 30.7 metres.

These are the first European titles for Issy, who won bronze in U14 Girls’ slalom at last year’s Euros.

“I’m honestly over the moon," Issy said. "Winning gold in tricks, slalom and overall, plus silver in jump, is more than I ever imagined. It’s been an intense few days, but everything just came together. I’ve put so much into training this year and to see it happen here at the Europeans at Botaski is something I’ll never forget. I’m so proud of how I skied and really grateful for all the support from everyone around me.”

GB’s other individual medal came courtesy of Buddy Carrington. The 12-year-old was competing only in the tricks event.   He went into the final seeded 4th but a combination of Buddy’s impressive skiing - improving on his preliminary round score - and mistakes by two of the higher seeded skiers put him on the podium.

“It feels amazing to come away with a bronze at the European Championships," Buddy said. "I’ve trained so hard for this and to see it all pay off here in Spain is just incredible. The competition was tough, but I stayed focused and gave it everything I had. This is a moment I’ll never forget.”

Harley Coster - in his first year as an Under-17 and skiing at 58kph – was unlucky to miss out on a medal in slalom, finishing fourth. He made all three finals, finishing 5th in jump, 7th in tricks and 5th overall.

His results were particularly impressive considering he’d only been back on the water for less than three weeks after breaking his ankle twice and undergoing surgery.

Other GB results of note:

  • Lara Cosgrove, who’s just 11, made the final of the U14 Girls’ slalom and finished 8th.
  • Seb Turp made the U17 Boys’ finals in both tricks (6th) and jump (11th). He was 6th overall.
  • Charlie Fearn made the final in U17 Boys’ jump, finishing 9th.
Well done to the whole team: Lara Cosgrove, Issy Cosgrove, Buddy Carrington, Seb Turp, Willow Skipsey, Charlie Fearn, Harley Coster and Team Captain & Manager, Vince and Emma Turp.
